The American Tree Sparrow has a reddish brown crown, a red line through the eye, a spot on the chest, and a distinctly colored bill. Upper mandible black and lower mandible yellow.  The Chipping Sparrow has a brighter rusty colored crown, a black line through the eye, and a grayish, unstreaked belly.
